PROGRAM NOTES
Soliloquy for Flute contains five short pieces for unaccompanied flute, each in a contrasting style. Each movement was composed as a musical statement centering around a thought as reflected by the title of each movement. In composing for solo flute without accompaniment, the Cichy created the illusion of harmony either by implied harmony as suggested by the tonal center and melodic lines or by outlining chord by arpeggiation (broken chords). Although tonal center is quite obvious in each movement, several scale sources are utilized including, major, minor, whole-tone, and altered scales.
