PROGRAM NOTES
The small town of Bristol, Rhode Island is usually bustling with activity as well as its adjacent coastline that yields much recreational sailing. On Wind & Sails, commissioned by the Mt. Hope High School Bands, take us on a musical journey out on the waters of Narragansett Bay. There’s something about sailing that usually brings out the competitiveness of recreational sailors, the need to challenge another boat. Without invitation, two boats on a similar tack seem to automatically tighten the main sail, reset the jib, and the two sailboats are off on an unofficial race to see who can out run the other. Cichy’s momentum building music provides the perfect background for a few of these races. Just imagine yourself on the ocean waters, steady wind blowing across your sails, salty water spraying up across your deck and your heart pounding with excitement – its all there in the music.
