PROGRAM NOTES
It is alway a pleasure writing a piece for a friend, and in this case, someone who is being celebrated for 40 years as a member of the National Flute Association and 30 years of service and dedication on the faculty of The Ohio State University School of Music. Katherine Borst Jones is inspiring in many ways. From her outstanding flute studio and Flute Troupe at The Ohio State University, to her annual Flute Workshop for high school students, she has earned the right to be known as one of the finest flute teachers in the country. Besides being a distinguished teacher, Katherine is an exceptional performer and continues to delight audiences throughout the world.
Devoted to the creation of new solo and ensemble music for flute, I am delighted that she has challenged my creative energies into writing for flute choir. This piece is for her and is a musical portrait of her endless energy, passionate spirit and kind-hearted demeanor.
Flute-Da-Toot was written for the OSU/KBJ Alumni Flute Choir’s performance at the 2015 National Flute Association Convention.
